The Xi'an Gaoling Domestic Waste Harmless Treatment Incineration Cogeneration Project is strategically located in the Geng Town (Zhang Bu) Street Office, Gaoling District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. Tasked with nearly a quarter of the Xi'an city's domestic waste "harmless, reduction, and resource" treatment, this project signifies a pivotal step towards sustainable waste management. With a domestic waste treatment capacity of 2,250 tons, construction commenced on September 1, 2018, culminating in the official commencement of operations on January 17, 2020.

As an integral component of Xi'an's ambitious "waste-free" city initiative the Gaoling Project assumes a crucial role in mitigating the challenges associated with waste management. Recognized for its exemplary contributions, the project was awarded with the title of National Ecological Environment Science and Technology Popularization Base in 2019. Furthermore, in 2021, it attained the prestigious AAA grade rating as a waste-to-energy plant, solidifying its status as one of the flagship projects under the esteemed SUS Environment.

Project Highlight

1. Elevated Design Concept

Designed by the renowned architectural firm AIA of France, the façade of the main plant at the Gaoling project embodies a fusion of global expertise and local heritage. Inspired by Xi'an's historical significance as one of China’s thirteen ancient capitals and incorporating the innovative "Beehive Concept" of SUS, the theme of "Thirteen Hives" is conceived to reflect the distinctive characteristics of the region. The "Beehive" concept vividly captures the journey of domestic waste collection and transportation from both urban and rural areas to the waste-to-energy plant, mirroring the diligent process of "bees collecting pollen, returning to the hive to produce honey and sharing it with the world."

2. Exemplary Operation Standards

Setting a benchmark for operational excellence, the project adopts an innovatively improved mechanical grate furnace developed by SUS Environment, earning recognition with the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress. This solution effectively addresses challenges posed by high moisture and low calorific value of waste materials. Equipped with an advanced computerized centralized decentralized control system (DCS), the project achieves centralized and coordinated monitoring and control across the entire plant. Additionally, through meticulous management of waste bunker and optimized combustion control, the project achieves an impressive annual average tonnage rate of 572kWh, positioning it at the forefront of the industry.

3. High Standards in Flue Gas Treatment

The project adopts a comprehensive flue gas purification process and a sophisticated flue gas recirculation system. Our project integrates SNCR (ammonia water), rotary atomization desulfurization tower (semi-dry method), dry method (Ca(OH)₂), activated carbon absorption, bag filter , and SCR (ammonia water) to significantly reduce NOx concentration. Our meticulous approach ensures that the flue gas emissions comply with the national "Pollution Control Standard for Waste-to-Energy," with several indicators surpassing the stringent standards set by the European Union (2010/75/EU).

4. High-Quality Neighborhood Community/

Grounded in the principal of creating a harmonious environment, our project embraces the concept of an open garden factory area. Central to this vision is our dedicated environmental science exhibition hall, accessible by appointment throughout the day, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and education. To foster community engagement our local community representatives serve as social supervisors, actively participating in social oversight. Additionally, in collaboration with local trade unions we have established "Love Stations," which provide essential amenities such as rest areas, shelter, and dining facilities for waste disposal workers and waste truck drivers, ensuring their well-being and comfort.
