The Qingdao Xiaojianxi Phase II Waste-to-Energy and Sludge Co-disposal Project is situated within the Xiaojianxi Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Park in Qingdao City. It serves as a pivotal facility for the secure, efficient, and sustainable treatment of municipal solid waste within the primary urban area of Qingdao. With a daily processing capacity of 2,250 tons of municipal solid waste and 500 tons of sludge (with a moisture content not exceeding 80%), the project plays a crucial role in waste management endeavors. Construction activities commenced on January 13, 2018, followed by official commencement of operations on August 7, 2019.

Spanning across 91,465 square meters, the Qingdao Xiaojianxi Project is equipped with three 825-ton mechanical grate furnaces, two 30 MW condensing steam turbines, and comprehensive systems dedicated to the management of flue gas, sewage, ash residue, and sludge drying.

Project Highlights

1. Floral Industrial Design

Designed by the renowned French architecture firm AIA, our factory incorporates elements inspired by the city flower of Qingdao, the rose. Utilizing triangular aluminum panels meticulously arranged to emulate the delicate petals of a rose, the building façade exudes elegance and charm. Drawing inspiration from the harmony of nature, the design concept inspired by a "honeycomb," portrays the waste-to-energy plant as a bustling beehive. Waste collection and transport vehicles are symbolized as diligent bees gathering nectar, while the electricity generated from waste serves as the sweet honey of our endeavor. Together the structure manifests as a captivating treasure trove, harmonizing functionality with aesthetic allure.

2. Integrated Facility Management Excellence

In a seamless union of functionality and efficiency, our facility optimizes waste incineration and sludge treatment processes. Strategically designed, the sludge drying system resides beneath the unloading platform of the incineration plant, eliminating the need for additional infrastructure. This innovative integration streamlines operations, conserves resources, and maximizes productivity.

3. Environmental Education Center

At the heart of our project lies a commitment to environmental education and public engagement transforming our facility into an immersive learning center and ecological landscape park, accessible to all free of charge. Embracing a culture of transparency, we provide real-time access to operational data, including smoke emissions, inviting public scrutiny and accountability Since October 2023, we have hosted approximately 600 groups, totaling 4,000 individuals, representing various street communities, environmental organizations, and domestic and international academic exchange teams.

4. Achieving "Ultra-Low Emissions"

At the Qingdao Xiaojianxi project, our commitment to environmental stewardship surpasses regulatory requirements. Our flue gas emissions adhere to stringent standards exceeding both the national standard (GB18485-2014) and the EU regulations (2010/75/EU). Since our inception in 2020, our meticulous monitoring has consistently yielded remarkable results. Key indicators such as dioxins consistently measure at less than one-tenth of the values stipulated in the national standard.

5. Inclusive Community Engagement

Embracing an ethos of openness and collaboration, our project has dedicated over 1,500 square meters spanning the first to fifth floors to environmental education facilities, extending a warm invitation to the public to participate in our initiatives. Within this space we curate a vibrant array of environmental awareness initiatives and community-building educational activities. Through fostering a sense of community, our goal is to cultivate meaningful partnerships, transforming neighbors into allies united in our collective commitment to environmental stewardship.
