The Taizhou Sanmen Waste-to-Energy Project is situated near the southeastern boundary of the coastal industrial city in Pugang Town, Sanmen County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. Its primary objective is to undertake the harmless, reduction, and resource-based treatment of municipal solid waste originating from across Sanmen County. The project has a daily municipal solid waste processing capacity of 500 tons and construction of the project commenced on August 15, 2020. Subsequently, it officially commenced operations on October 21, 2021.

The Taizhou Sanmen Waste-to-Energy Project implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a designed total capacity of 1,000 tons per day, is distributed across two phases. As of December 2022, the project has successfully processed a cumulative total of 259,659 tons of municipal solid waste alongside 41,320 tons of old waste. Impressively, it has contributed a cumulative total of 9,352.79 MWh of electricity to the grid and has hosted over 300 visitors for educational tours.

Project Highlight

1. Architectural Design Concept

The project adopts the concept of integrating mountains and rivers, employing architectural techniques such as layering, flow, interweaving, and mirroring. Through careful utilization of existing terrain and landforms, the design harmoniously blends mountains and rivers, creating a picturesque landscape that resonates with the cultural heritage of the region.

2. Distinct Geographic Location

Sanmen County occupies a strategic position along China's "Golden Coastline," nestled between Sanmen Bay and Mount Tiantai. It is bordered by the East China Sea to the east and neighbors Ninghai County to the north and Linhai City to the south. The name "Sanmen" is derived from the three peaks known as Sanmen Mountain, resembling three gates when viewed from afar. This geographical diversity imbues the region with a rich tapestry of cultures and natural splendor.

3. Utilization of Domestically Manufactured High Calorific Value R-Type Grate

Utilizing domestically produced SUS mechanical grates with a single furnace capacity of 500 tons per day, the project ensures efficient waste incineration. With a designed calorific value of 2350 kcal/kg for the waste entering the furnace, these grates are known for their durability, resistance to corrosion, and cost-effectiveness in maintenance.

 4. Advanced Flue Gas Treatment Technology

Employing cutting-edge domestic flue gas purification technologies including SNCR (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction), semi-dry and dry methods, activated carbon injection, bag filtration, wet scrubbing, and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)" the project maintains stringent compliance with emission standards.

5. Open and Beneficial Community Co-construction

The project prioritizes community involvement through its environmental education gallery which is freely accessible to the public year-round. Additionally, real time disclosure of operational data including flue gas emissions fosters transparency and accountability, empowering local residents to actively participate in environmental stewardship and sustainable development initiatives.
