Public Disclosure of Project Information for the Waste-to-Energy Project in Samarkand Region

The SUS Uzbekistan Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Project is located approximately 10 km southwest of central Samarkand, adjacent to the existing Samarkand City Landfill. The Project aims to improve municipal solid waste (MSW) management, reduce reliance on landfill disposal, and generate electricity for Uzbekistan’s national grid.
The Project will receive and process MSW collected across the Samarkand Region and has a treatment capacity of 1,500 tonnes per day, equivalent to approximately 500,000 tonnes per year. The facility will comprise two mechanical grate incineration lines, each capable of processing approximately 750 tonnes of waste per day, together with associated waste reception, flue-gas treatment, ash handling, water treatment, and power generation facilities. Hazardous, infectious, radioactive, and other non-conforming wastes will not be accepted.
The Project is expected to generate approximately 371.4 million kWh of electricity annually, of which around 328.3 million kWh will be exported to Uzbekistan’s national grid through a dedicated grid connection system. The facility will operate for approximately 8,000 hours per year and is designed for an operational life of approximately 30 years.
Water will be supplied from the Dargom Canal through a dedicated pipeline and pump station. The Project also incorporates a zero-discharge wastewater management system, whereby treated wastewater will be reused within the facility.
An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) has been prepared for the Project. The assessment considered air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, water resources, biodiversity, waste and ash management, occupational and community health and safety, livelihood impacts, labour and working conditions, and climate change resilience.
Construction Schedule
Construction of the Project commenced in July 2025 and commercial operation is scheduled to commence in July 2027.

Loyiha maqsadi shahar qattiq maishiy chiqindilarini (MSW) boshqarishni yaxshilash, poligonga tashlashga bog'liqlikni kamaytirish va O'zbekiston milliy elektr tarmog'i uchun elektr energiyasi ishlab chiqarishdan iborat.
Loyiha Samarqand viloyati bo‘ylab yig‘ilgan qattiq maishiy chiqindilarni qabul qiladi va qayta ishlaydi, kuniga 1500 tonna, ya’ni yiliga taxminan 500 000 tonna chiqindini qayta ishlash quvvatiga ega. Suv Dargom kanalidan maxsus quvur va nasos stansiyasi orqali yetkazib beriladi. Loyiha, shuningdek, nol chiqindili oqava suv boshqaruv tizimini o'z ichiga oladi, bunda tozalangan oqava suvlar ob'ekt ichida qayta ishlatiladi.
Loyiha uchun Atrof-muhit va Ijtimoiy Ta'sirni Baholash (ESIA) tayyorlangan.
